UN Experts Urge International Community to Recognize Palestinian State

The UN calls to “use all political and diplomatic resources” to achieve an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
On Monday, independent United Nations experts urged the international community to recognize the Palestinian state as a full member and thus sow a lasting peace in the region.

In a statement released by the agency, the signatories called on the international community to “use all political and diplomatic resources” to achieve an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
Political recognition, they said, is an important step in the rights of the Palestinian people and their struggles and sufferings for freedom and independence.
Palestine must be able to enjoy full self-determination, including the ability to exist, determine its destiny and develop freely as a people with security, they acknowledged.
«This is a precondition for lasting peace in Palestine and throughout the Middle East, starting with the immediate declaration of a ceasefire in Gaza and no more military incursions into Rafah», the text added.
The experts welcomed the recent recognition of Norway, Ireland and Spain shortly after the General Assembly voted overwhelmingly to extend the rights of that representative to the United Nations.
At the same time, they saw the two-state solution as the only internationally agreed path to peace and security for both Palestine and Israel and a way out of the generational cycles of violence and resentment.
